Dear Jakob,
You're too young to have seen a movie called "The Graduate" - but it started with the celebration of a young man named Benjamin's graduation. Older people, concerned about how he would become a success - in other words, how he would get rich. One whispered in his ear: "Plastics." You can't go wrong investing in plastics! All these years later, it's come true - but rather than making people rich, plastic is also destroying the planet. Just this week, there was another story of people in a boat rescuing a whale trapped in plastic netting. We know there are "trash" islands - mostly of our throwaways - forming in the seas. It's everywhere and getting worse!
Do we need individually wrapped everything?
Some countries - England, Bangladesh - are outlawing plastic bags and the sun still rises! So, as you live and travel, is that something you and your peers could help make happen? Why not!
Peace to you!
Grandma
P.S. And now, how do I remind myself to take my cloth shopping bags to the grocery store?
